Simple Parametric tutorial suggestion request

Can somebody recommend a good parametric modeling tutorial for Rhino3d that does not use Grasshopper, similar to this person’s Fusion360 tutorial. I have a 3d printer and would like to design things around the house. I own Rhino for years and see just how powerful Rhino is. I do not need the extreme power that comes with Rhino, I could use a Rhino for 3d printing dummies book :slight_smile:

I have tried Fusion/OnShape/FreeCad/Blender and the couple on iPad. Each has pros and cons. Biggest pro to Rhino, for me, is I own it and the files I create on my box not in the cloud.

Hi Tom -

You’ll have to clarify your requirements. There are no parametrics in native Rhino.

Sorry I was looking forward to the constraints, I just saw the post is canned :frowning:

I am a 3d printer person. Working on functional thing around the house, and hope to sale them.
here is a supper simple example of what I deal with:

  1. Create a rectangle, 20mm x 20mm
  2. create 4 - 2mm circle in each corner 3 mm inset from each closest face. (small circle in each corner simply put)
  3. extrude the rectangle 3 mm tall.
  4. use the circles to make screw holes

Then I would print it.

Realize I made a mistake In measurements,

  • The holes in each corner need to be 2.5 mm inset

  • the holds need to be 1.5 mm diameter

  • and the rectangle needs to be 20mm x 22mm in size

In fusion I would use a lot of equal constraints and only need to change 3 values and it would fix every thing, until I print it out again and realize it was wrong, and have to do it all over again.

Using Rhino Grasshopper this Is very possible and I’ve done it, but not as easy as editing a sketch.

Is there a video for 3d printing people that explains how to do this kind of work flow.
