ShapeMap 1.1.0 for Rhino 8 Windows is now available
ShapeMap will automatically update if you install it via PackageManager. Alternatively, you can manually install it by clicking the linke below, https://www.food4rhino.com/en/app/shapemap
Fixed incorrect normal calculations that occurred when unfolding certain geometric objects.
Added a Symmetry option to the ShapeSolver component, now supporting symmetric objects.
is there a comparison to stuff like smorph for one-patch surfaces? it seems shapemap has less distortion (e.g. compared to when you map some uniform hexagons onto a surface of curvature with smorph)
it seems right now the ‘topology’ of the target domain needs to be homeomorphic to disk (e.g. might not work directly if it’s like a ring or like a closed volume/doughnut)–is there like a mathematical reason for this? (I’m thinking maybe some ‘boundary condition’?)
The operation of ShapMap is more similar to Squish + SquishBack. It first faltterns a 3D object into a plane, then arranges curved patterns on the flattended object, and finally remaps these patterns onto the 3D object.
Yes, you are right, this is its limitation - it cannot properly handle fully encloused objects.
