Settings for laptop 16 inch screen

Hi.I purchased an ASUS laptop with RTX 5060 16 inch screen and when i draw a circle it doesn’t appear completely rounded.Do i have to change settings?

Does your laptop screen have non-square pixels?

I don’t know how verify this.The screen is “16-inch, WUXGA (1920x1200), 165Hz, 300 nits”ASUS TUF A 16 if it helps

What do you mean by “not completely rounded”?

A screenshot would be helpful

I post screenshot later when i return home

Means circles are not displayed as circles on the screen, but rather ellipses. Most software display systems assume square pixels. If the pixels are rectangular, then plan view circles will be wider than they are high by the same proportion as the rectangular pixels are.

A bit of searching has not revealed any definite answer, but most seem to think the pixels on your screen are square. One other possibility to check is how your laptop display is set up. The WUXGA is 1900 x 1200 - 16:10, whereas the classic ratio full HD ratio is 16:9, i.e. 1920 x 1080. If your system thinks the screen is only 1080 high, that might cause the problem.

Do the circles appear stretched horizontally or vertically?

I don’t know, to me “not completely rounded” sounded a bit like aliasing artefacts or similar?

Anyway, a sceenshot will clear things up, I suppose.

Let`s see, when Emmanuell posts it…

I am not sure.I will check it in the afternoon

This is exactly the problem

Draw a square in Rhino, display it as large as you can on the screen and measure both dimensions with a good ruler. If pixels are square the lengths will be the same.

I saved you image, imported it into Rhino using Picture, and created a circle which exaclty matches the circle in the image.

You din’t notice any distortion?

No, the circle in the image exactly matches a circle.

Perhaps you should describe the “distortion” you see. How large is the distortion compared to the diameter of the circle.

I do not see any distortion in the image you posted.

The image is X by Y pixels. If your PC has square pixels you see a true circle. If your printer has square pixels you print a true circle. If the OP’s pc has rectangular pixels he sees that very same image as an ellipse. If the OP prints the image and his printer has square pixels his printed image will be circular. Different devices will show what those devices do, not what the OP’s screen does.

The way to check the screen is to display a large square and measure the sides as displayed on screen.

Good point.

Agree.

It would be very unusual for a recent laptop to have a screen with anything other than square pixels.

Another possibility, if the circle appears as an elipse on screen, other than non-square pixels, is different Horizontal scale and Vertical scale are set in View Scaling for the display modes being used.
Options > Rhino Options > View > Display Modes > (Display Mode Name) > Other Settings > View Scaling

Thank you all.All settings you suggest are ok.I will try adjusting the nvidia settings to see if it improves.

What resolution is it set to?

1920x1200
