Semi transparent mirror

How can I make a semi-transparent material (for the Rhino 8 render).
I know people are using polished metal for mirror material. But how can I make it semi-transparent?
sincerely MJ

Add the Opacity section in a PBR material that is set up as a polished metal. Then ensure opacity is 100% and play with the alpha setting.

Great. Thanks!

Hi @mogens_jacobsen
I don’t get to disagree with @nathanletwory often , but in this case I believe that a better and more realistic approach, is to make the material completely transparent and then set the metallic’nes to something that gives you the intended balance between reflection and transparency (in this case I’ve used 0.45), since changing the alpha will merely make the entire object “fade” without any regard to IOR, reflections etc. At least I think so :grimacing:

I debated with myself whether to go with transmission (low opacity) or with alpha. I went for alpha this time since that will be nicer on single surfaces.

But if you always do closed polysurfaces or extrusions then certainly using low opacity over alpha is better.
