how to split a mesh by faces or selected edges? can a new SubD tool help? or should it be done in Gasshopper?

There’s a SelEdgeLoop command in Rhino 7. It should work for this case in Rhino.
You can then run Crease to duplicate vertices and create a crease.

Perhaps Rhino8 will be the genius of Chebyshev’s mesh design? While this is possible with the help of kangaroos and other algorithms. It is a pity that it is impossible to use panels tools and lunch box. Such a tool or plug-in is required to actually produce ribs of equal length on any surface.
