Is there a way to select a single object of a group to inspect its properties (rather than get (varies))?

Probably not exactly what you are looking for:
RemoveFromGroup with Copy=Yes and select the object(s) you wish to inspect.
Inspect the object(s).
Delete the copies.

I was looking for something simple. Maybe this should be a feature request, something like CMD+Click selects just the single item and allows you to inspect and set properties separately from the group.

Ctrl (Cmd) + Shift + click (like subobject selection) should allow you to select a single object within a group.
