This does look much longer than needed. I think it uses the boundingbox diagonal length of the objects. I’ll review.

@rajaa did you had the chance to check the file I sent you?

I am still experiencing:

  • very long Section Lines
  • Section disappear as I update them! - This is main issue

If section management is not reliable they are useless.

Do you have an idea about when Section will be dealt by McNeels, as discussed above? (dedicated panel, increased robustness, drag and drop to layouts)

Did you already send the 3dm example file where section curves are too big?
We have not yet scheduled exact time to start work on the SectionTools changes, but will keep you posted. Thanks.

I did sent the file straight away
I just sent you another file anyway where I am experiencing other issues as well:

  1. Very long section Lines
  2. Object change layers!
  3. Section change layers as well migrating to incremental or a generic Layer 01, Layer 01 01 etc…
  4. Sections with invisible names

Hi @rajaa , is there any update about SectionTool update and/or fix to current issues after the long screen share we had?
SectionTools is definitively not stable and dangerous.
After some time it happen that it get unlocked by itself and garble stuff.

I think the way to go is avoid that unlock or unhide can trigger issues and associate each section with an automatic layerstate as discussed already

I have been working on SectionTools the past couple of weeks. I was thinking I release it soon and get your feedback. No sections manager, but many other improvements. Will let you know once ready to try.

Hi Luca,
Just released a new SectionTools for Rhino 7.3 for Windows. Here are the changes. I’ll announce after I finish testing but thought I give you the heads up. You can install through the PackageManager command (search for SectionTools, version 4-8-2021).

New in version 4-8-2021

  • Added a new command stExtractSections to help extract sections data in their 3D location including curves, caps and slices with user-specified thickness.

  • Added a new command stLockSections to lock all sections and hide their ClippingPlanes.

  • Added support to stViewSections to select active viewport when pressing enter, instead of requiring to select a view.

  • stViewSections now support saving the section view and section plane to NamedViews and NamedCPlanes.

  • Update the stMake2D command to use the new HLD SDK functions to create parallel projections of sections and the background objects and organize in sublayers with the section name indicated. You can change the attributes of the layers, but need to keep the names to be able to replace content when running the command again on the same section to update the result.

  • Added support to sectioning the new SubD objects introduced in Rhino7.

  • Fixed a bug when sectioning with tight boundingBox and get incomplete section.

  • stCreate: changed Attribute option in command to be either “ByLayer” (use the section layer attributes) or “FromSource” (use source object attribute if assigned by object, or the source layer attributes if assigned by layer).

  • stCreate: made the LoadFromFile option a one shot option.

  • stCreate: the preview for the section line placement now shows a line with an arrow to indicate the up direction of sections.

  • Added option to stNestLayout to place the tags inside or outside the layout and to use either a Dot or Text for the label.

  • Whenever sections need to be selected, it is now possible to press “Enter” to select all sections instead of using the UI to select all.

  • Updated the menu and toolbars to include the new commands (toolbars installed with the plugin and should be accessible through the Toolbar command)

  • Updated the documentation manual with the new changes (download from SectionTools for Rhino | Food4Rhino)

I wanted to mention that I was not able to add the saving of the layer state in this release because we had to add functions to the SDK that will be exposed in 7.6 service release. I’ll add then.
