Section Styles - Section Styles Dialog

Hello,

another super important feature request.

Section Styles - we need a small system for handling those. We use hundred of layers and we need to have a system with reusable section styles for the layers. Otherwise it becomes a mess to handle. Could be very simple like Named Cplanes or similar. Just a place where you can setup and handle “Named Section Styles”. Would work a charm! Update one place and use on 40 different layers.

And please make it possible to drag’n’drop Section Styles (and Materials!) between layers!

Thanks
/Erik

Hej Erik -

Yes, we do → RH-73683 Named Section Style Manager Request

Between? What does that mean?

It means:

You take whatever property a layer has in the Layer Manager and then click-drag it to another layer! Like a Section Style or a Material. So fast and so easy. With a bit of cunning, dragging can be to several layers as well.

Would be great!

Thanks

Also Wim,

another additional way of doing this is to add a Section Style connection to the materials. Then the section styles could be guided by materials. As normally (real world) materials have specific section styles. Like wood would have a wood hatch. Steel a steel hatch etc …
It’s an option.

+1 for this.

Append— The ability to choose an existing Line Type instead of only being able to Copy From Existing. In the context of Sectioning, it makes sense be able to choose the Boundary style line from within the Section Style window

+1 as well, this would be fantastic.

Section styles as a table object like Annotation styles or linetypes is really the only way to effectively manage them in a large complex file.

+1 and section style based on material to

Yes this would be fantastic!!! Fully agree!

+1 :)!

+1 .

Named section styles that can be attached to materials would be superb

Any news on this subject?

Hej Vitus -

Can you be more specific?
In the Rhino WIP, there is a “Section Styles” entry in the Document Properties:

Hi Alan -

I’ve added this to the pile: RH-91355 Section Style: Existing Linetype

Hi Wim

Thank you the quick response. I want to make and save different section styles, where now in Rhino 8, is only possible to have “custom” and “none”. Is this in the Rhino 9 WIP?

Hej Vitus -

Yes, it is.

RH-91354 is fixed in Rhino WIP

Hello Wim, would it be possible to attach section style to a material, as it is in BIM softwares?

Hi Jan -

Could you show an image of what this would look like on a clipped object?
-wim

Non cut surfaces of object would have material color / bitmap of a material, section plane would have section style either By layer, Named section style, Custom or “By Material”. Material can have attached “Named section” to it, or you dont need to attach anything, then the section would have Clipping plane fill, or default section style.

Most important is to be able to attach section style together with material. For someone, who want to do technical drawings out of realistic model with realistic materials attached it might be game changing.
