RhinoWIP Intel Mac Users – Save Files as V8

Hi all RhinoWIP Intel Mac Users-

IMPORTANT: Please save your 3dm files in V8 format if you have an Intel Mac and are using the RhinoWIP.

Why?

In preparation for an upcoming RhinoWIP that discontinues support for Intel processors, we urge you to save your 3dm files in V8 format.

For the moment, you can:

Continue Using the July 15th WIP (Intel-Compatible)

  • The last Intel-supported build (9.0.25196.12306, released July 15, 2025) will work until August 30, 2025.
  • Please Save your files in V8 format if you continue using this last Intel WIP.

Thank you

doubts

I still believe its not a good decision to not support mac intel in V9.
My suggestion would have been to not officially support it - meaning selling the licence as “apple silicon only” and pop up a waring on installing it on a mac intel. And stuck to xcode version at least until the early bugs after the release are polished out.

This would allow less electronic waste, less costs for many users. - like me.

openNurbs and Convert3dm

@dan will openNurbs / read / write 3dm files work on mac intel for V9 ?
I really hope tools like convert3dm will work on intel for V9 !!

cheers - tom

I think we will continue to support OpenNURBS on Intel Mac for as long as we are feasibly able to compile on Intel-based Macs. We maintain a bunch of legacy build infrastructure for just this purpose. We will likely need to get some additional Intel-based back-up Macs.
