Hello Rhino Community ![]()
It has been a while since the last update here. Rhino Sync 0.0.43 is out, and it is a big one!
The work since then has gone into three things: showing you what your team is doing while they are doing it, making sure nothing goes missing along the way, and a great deal of stability work underneath both.
We are heading towards the official release.
Live preview
See what others are drawing, before anyone syncs.
The edits you have not synchronized yet now appear in your teammates’ viewports as a preview.
Both halves are switches under Live Previews in the panel toolbar: Broadcast live previews shares yours, Show teammates’ live previews shows theirs. One thing worth knowing: a teammate’s preview only reaches you while their colour is turned on in the user list. A red dot next to a name shows who is broadcasting right now.

Who is editing what
- Pick the colour your teammates see from the panel toolbar, and everyone sees the change immediately
- Turning a teammate’s colour on now does more than highlight. While it is on, the objects they are holding cannot be selected. Your own stay selectable.
- The Objects In Use report shows what was blocked and who is holding it, grouped by person, with a button to zoom to the objects
- When a command touches objects someone else is holding, those objects go back to how they were and the report tells you who has them
- Highlighting now works correctly on block instances
More of the model synchronizes
- Clipping planes. This one is shared rather than personal: it starts off, anyone in the session can switch it on in the settings, and everyone else follows.
- Named views
- Dimension styles and line types
- Groups
- Texture mapping fixes
The full list of what Rhino Sync keeps in step is on the product page.
Nothing goes missing
A large part of this release is data safety.
- Objects are no longer quietly dropped during a reload. If a layer or a block definition is missing on your machine it is brought in from the central file, and anything that cannot be applied is retried rather than lost.
- Hiding an object no longer loses track of it, which could previously let two people end up owning and overwriting the same object
- Save and Save As during a session no longer clash with Rhino Sync working in the background
- Every upload keeps a dated backup of the central file, and the last five are kept
Smoother in daily use
- A dropped connection writes a line in the panel instead of a dialog you had to keep dismissing, and it will not repeat itself through a long outage
- Large central files no longer time out while uploading or downloading
- Ownership colours update the moment something changes, rather than on a timer
- The Objects In Use report builds in the background, so Rhino stays responsive while it loads
- A connection status bar in the panel, and a time-stamped line whenever you or a teammate finishes synchronizing
macOS
- The Objects In Use report is now available on Mac
- Safari cannot complete the Google Drive picker at all. If Safari is your default browser, Rhino Sync now offers to open the sign-in page in Chrome instead.
Before you update
- Rhino 8.14 or later is now required. On anything older the plugin will not load and will tell you so.
- Settings and sign-in have moved to a new location and nothing carries over from the old one. You will need to sign in again, and your user name, colour and display preferences start from their defaults.
