For those not aware, rhino.compute is now entering testing phases for Linux support as per Luis’ announcement yesterday at the Rhino User meeting in London, and today on this forum thread here. This is targeting WIP (9) and has no plans for porting the Rhino3d UI (comment here). This is still an amazing achievement (2 years of work was said), and we can rejoice that the geometry kernel of rhino runs on native linux now (arm and 64)!
I have managed to set it up on my device running NixOS (see photo below). This opens up an interesting avenue for some sort of open source UI wrapper based on the compute backend running locally. Not optimal, and you would be billed by Core Hour, not a one-time license, but it is an interesting proposition that I will take a stab at over spring break.
