Gemmiti Model Art is a San Francisco physical model studio seeking a Rhino CAD professional to assist with the development of fabrication-ready CAD for physical scale models.
Our projects require Rhino geometry that can move directly into fabrication, including CNC machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting.
Our studio produces high-precision architectural, engineering, and technology models for museums, architects, and innovative companies. The work involves translating design information into clean, well-organized Rhino geometry suitable for fabrication. It also requires clear file organization, labeling, and documentation within our workflow framework so that projects can move accurately and efficiently through production.
This is not a visualization or rendering role. The focus is on precise geometry, practical fabrication, and organized communication of the work.
Typical responsibilities
– Developing Rhino CAD from architectural drawings, reference material, and sketches
– Preparing clean, organized geometry suitable for fabrication
– Breaking assemblies into parts for machining or 3D printing
– Scaling and interpreting historical or incomplete reference material
– Creating clear labels, file structure, and step-by-step documentation within our workflow framework
– Working closely with a physical model-making team
Requirements
– Strong proficiency in Rhino
– Ability to produce accurate, clean geometry
– Experience preparing models for fabrication (CNC, 3D printing, laser cutting, etc.)
– Experience designing parts with appropriate clearances, press fits, and offsets based on material and fabrication process
– Ability to organize files, parts, and assemblies clearly for production
– Ability to create clear labels and documentation for others working within an established workflow
– Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Helpful but not required
– Architectural or industrial design background
– Experience with RhinoCAM or other CAM workflows
– Interest in physical model making or fabrication
Work is offered on a contract basis for specific projects, with the possibility of ongoing collaboration depending on availability and project needs.
Our studio is located in San Francisco. Local candidates are preferred, though remote collaboration may be possible depending on the project.
