Rhino 8 for Mac / Settings Window Crash

Hello -

I am having an issue where Rhino 8 crashes when invoking the settings window. Running an M1 Max with 32GB RAM & Sonoma 14.5. Report below, any help is appreciated. Crash report is attached.

Can you repeat with Enscape removed?

The systemInfo you posted is for Rhino 7.

@Japhy - Sorry wrong window! Also, FWIW running the Plugin Manager command crashed the app as well. I manually unloaded Enscape from the plugins folder. SystemInfo below. Thanks!

@Michael_Suriano can you please share the file settings-Scheme__Default.xm that lives at ~/Library/Application\ Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/Plug-ins/RhinoCycles\ \(9bc28e9e-7a6c-4b8f-a0c6-3d05e02d1b97\)/settings (the tilde means your home folder).

please also run the non-autocompleting Rhino command RhinoCycles_ListDevices and copy the result that appears in the command history panel. Mine gives

@nathanletwory - including a screenshot at location you specified. I see RhinoCycles for Rhino 7 (no *.xm file inside), but not Rhino 8. Additionally, running the command you specified crashed Rhino 8. I ran the same command in Rhino 7 and got the below info.

Command: RhinoCycles_ListDevices
We have 1 device

Device 0: CPU > VirtualApple @ 2.50GHz > 0 | False | False | CPU

Can you run RhinoCycles_SelectDevice and then enter 0 as input, then please restart Rhino and try going to the settings page again through pluginmanager.

@nathanletwory, Rhino 8 crashes immediately when this command is executed, so I am unable to get into any other menu or setting.

Again, running in Rhino 7 for comparison that command returns:

RhinoCycles_SelectDevice

I don’t know currently what this all means. I haven’t seen a VirtualApple before, and I have no clue as to what is going on.

I tested on my M1 and that works just fine, although there I have a CPU and a Metal device.

@nathanletwory yes, I have tried it from a fresh session both with an existing model file, but also a new ‘empty’ file.

With all other documents completely closed? Just making sure, since on the Mac it is still possible to have multiple documents open in the same Rhino instance whereas on Windows that is not possible.

I don’t know yet why the error happens, but I’ll have a stop-gap solution in the very least.

I have logged the issue here: RH-82565 System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
