Rhino 8/9 on mac - scripts, mouse buttons, custom toolbars etc

Hello,

I’m thinking of moving over to Mac on release of R9, as my pc is on its last legs, and I prefer the apple ecosystem in general.

I’m aware of limitations in rendering and with large assemblies, but I don’t do renders, and my models are generally smallish furniture pieces, so I’m happy with that.

My question is whether I’ll still be able to use some custom scripts that I’ve made for exporting to cutlists in excel and also will I be able to port my toolbar layouts, custom mouse buttons and pop-up menus etc.

Finally, do we know if there will be any further improvements on Mac implementation in R9?

many thanks,

John

Hi John -

That would be easiest if you first install Rhino 9 on your Windows machine and then run the OptionsMigrate command. That will let you migrate the settings from Rhino 8 automatically.

Then use OptionsExport to create a RHS file. Put that file somewhere accessible from the Mac, and run OptionsMigrate from Rhino there. Select the RHS file.

I’m not sure what that means.

Many thanks Wim,

That’s a very useful feature, and I’ll do that once r9 is out.

Regarding second part of my question - I know that r8 was rebuilt to use Apple m chips specifically. I was wondering if there were going to be any other Mac specific improvements in R9.

Thanks again.

Hi John -

The command line is now unified to use the same code on both platforms. You can now use the same command line on macOS as the one that you have been used to on Windows. This also works the other way around: you can use the traditional macOS-style Rhino command box on Windows.

Other than that, I suppose there have been multiple macOS-specific bug fixes, but nothing special comes to mind right now.

Excellent, thanks Wim.
