Company course requirement for 26 users to be complied with. I am supposed to email “the necessary file”. How is it done?
Hey @Lagom can you tell me a bit more about this. Your company wants to take one persons Rhino settings and distribute it to 26 users for a course?
Which settings do you want to move?
- Aliases?
- Display Modes?
- Window Layouts?
- Toolbars?
Hi @CallumSykes I (macOS) need to distribute my settings to 26 users (Windows). Most important are the items shown below. In case there is no single UserPrefs file to email to the users, could you describe how to save the items separately, and let me know how the users are supposed to load them in Rhino 8 for Windows? Thanks!
Layout of the app on screen.
Containers, what I previously thought were called toolbars? All tools in the five containers/toolbars are pulled from the standard Rhino set. There’s only one self-made tool with a self-made tool icon to display the knots of a curve.
Keyboard shortcuts. There are many self-made ones.
Aliases. There are many self-made ones.
Display modes. Wireframe mode substantially modified. Three custom display modes using matcaps in PNG file format.
There is native functionality in Rhino 9 to allow for this behaviour (OptionsExport and OptionsMigrate), but none in Rhino 8 to move window layouts / toolbars as well as Aliases etc. Aliases and a few other settings can be moved. But not across OS’s.
This answer is .. disappointing .. and I didn’t get into this business to give disappointing answers. So I’ve extracted the magic into a tool you should be able to use and DM’d it to you.

I’ve not tested this at scale, but it all works for me locally with the settings available to me.
