What about the grain, @Gijs ? Is the grain being caused by my graphics card (Nvidia Quadro P2000) or is it something else? Speed is not that a big a deal for me – and I’m trying to decide whether to spend the money and get a better card. Would a better graphics card result in a sharper, better quality rendering?
Wow this image looks great @Gijs ! What do you mean by “automatically generated depth map”?
@cosmas tiny light sources will create more noise than larger ones in the same given time. A high dynamic range image with a bright sun will generate more noise than a lower dynamic overcast sky one.
Glossy materials will generate more noise than matte diffuse objects.
Etc. there are many factors affecting noise.
Your graphic card is not the cause of the noise, only affects speed. A newer /faster card will only make the rendering go faster and resolve the noise in a shorted amount of time.
Yes:)
I accidentally closed the previous, but here is a sample how it is set up
here you can see I am using the depth map as layer masks (sometimes inverted)
I am experiencing super grainy results with my AMD 5700 XT graphics card. I have the latest “pro” drivers v23.Q3 that are supposed to be more stable than adrenalin ones. I am using Rhino 7.32.23221.10241.
I attach the pixelated level of granularity below.
I am not sure why it happens for the standard views. When I select the Render button the renders don’t look bad at all on this separate Render dialog.
Hi Bartłomiej -
Note that this thread was originally about using the Render
command, not the display in viewports.
Have you tried turning off GPU Tessellation
in Rhino Options -> View -> OpenGL
?
And, as for rendering…
Why not use the “Rhino Render”?
-wim
Thank you for trying to help. Unfortunately changing renderer (from Legacy to Legacy Rhino Render to Rhino Render), GPU tessellation setting does not improve the quality. The results are still very grainy. Does Rhino have some type of compatibility test suite I could run?
Hi -
I’m afraid I don’t know what that means.
Please run the Rhino SystemInfo
command and copy-paste the result here.
-wim

Hi Rita -
Is there a problem you are trying to solve?
