David added native settings for flat shaded components in Rhino 8:

I added two global settings (no UI) for disabling/enabling the highlight bar and the shiny edges on capsules. Once the next Rhino8 service release goes out those will become available. You’ll either have to change the settings xml file by hand while Rhino is not running, or use the script in the attached file to toggle those settings. CapsuleSettings.gh (12.0 KB) [settings]

That might be enough for you.
