Request for SelParents to actually find the parents

I’d like to see an option for SelParents/SelChildren, anything else it could apply to, where it will actually turn on layers and show or unlock objects if need be.

Also on the particular object I’m trying to find the parent curve for here, it seems like it straight up just isn’t actually in the file anymore, yet SelParents doesn’t react like there’s no history on it. That’s a sort of a bug.

Hi Jim -

Feature request: RH-85160 SelChildren/SelParents: Add Option To Show Hidden

That’s probably this one: RH-10533 Nuke history on orphans

Hi Jim -
As a follow-up on the request, is your main (or even only) concern trying to figure out if there still is a parent to an object that reports to have history? Or do you actually want to potentially show lots of objects when a whole layer hierarchy is turned on?
As Mikko writes in the feature request report, there’s a (hidden) HistoryReport command that states the UUID of the parent object and adds “(missing)” behind that UUID when that object has been deleted.
Does that suffice?

Hmm well in this case I had no idea the objects had missing parents…I guess if one is in this situation where the parents have gone missing, if it requires possibly turning on lots of geometry, that’s okay? That probably won’t be the case unless the model has become highly disorganized, in which case, well it is what it is?
