Regression: Simple Window Colors Settings

Mjello McNeel,

As much as I appreciate the granularity provided by the Advanced Rhino Options, it would be nice to have the current simpler General color options for windows ported to Rhino 8 Beta. It’s pretty overwhelming/confusing trying to set the same options using the Advanced settings:

Rhino 7:

Rhino 8 Beta:

Also, they seem to not stick under certain conditions (I have not identified what yet).

Best,

Anders

Assuming this regression is unclear, I’m referring specifically to putting these Rhino 7 Window options back in Rhino 8 (or their new equivalent):

FWIW these keys appear to replace most of the Rhino 7 window color settings:

Except the bottom menu enabled items.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the UI colours kept on changing throughout the WIP phase the last half year?
Not sure what happened, but my custom dark theme no longer looks the same as it did initially. Some of the settings also no longer target the same UI elements.

Hej Anders -

Perhaps you have found out in the meanwhile that the UiPaintColors settings no longer do anything?
(I found your other post…)
RH-77220

I haven’t found out yet what controls those enabled buttons on the status bar…
But for those other 3 settings → RH-77219 UI Appearance: Bring back “General” colors in Appearance > Colors

Cheers Wim. While we wait, do you know if it’s possible to set the advanced values (e.g. Rhino.UI.ThemeSettings.Frame.Background) via RhinoCommon or other type of script?

Hej Anders -

I’ve asked around and that does not seem to be possible, no.
I’ve tested the fix for RH-77219 - those 3 settings are now in the UI.

Just checked, it looks/works great (edit: although you may want to put a border around the color swatches, like in Rhino 7). Cheers Wim :raised_hands:

The General color settings appear to be missing from the (8.0.23276.13303, 2023-10-03) build:

Hi Anders -

Those are only available when you pick the “Custom” option.
