R7 - Material Thumbnails All Black?

MaterialThumbs

Hello - are these Rhino materials? Is Rhino the current renderer? And, is this a new problem?

Please run the SystemInfo command in Rhino and copy/paste the results here.

Thanks:

Hello - please try the 7.6 release candidate - you can get the fixed (7.6) version by changing the ‘Update frequency’ in Options > Updates and Statistics page to ‘Service release candidate’

Please use 7.22 and the latest Nvidia drivers.

I sent a link to you with the 7.22.

The fix is in 7.22

Run TestClearRDKCaches in the command line.

Then reload the file or RMB in the material editor and choose to update all thumbnails

Thanks Japhy!

The materials thumbnails are fixed but the thumbnails in the “Libraries” panel are still black.

Not sure if this is a rhino issue or a windows 11 issue so I thought i’d attach my dxdiag info…

DxDiag.txt (106.4 KB)

Still getting this issue with up to date graphics cards and service candidates :pensive:

Hi @andyconnacher I don’t see that issue here, so I wonder if you have set things up differently with regards to the materials that show black. Those are all custom materials correct? Do they all use textures? Can you send me 1 or more of the materials that show black? Also you are blocking off the paths to your materials in your screenshot, if that’s confidential, can you send me in a pm where you store this information? The only thing I can think of now is that Rhino has insufficient rights to access the place where you store these materials.

Hi @andyconnacher,
There are two Rhino test commands that may fix the issue of thumbnails displaying black instead of the material preview in the Materials panel.

  • TestRestoreLibraryFileAssociations
  • TestClearRDKCaches

Give these a try and let us know if it resolves your issue.
Thanks,
Mary Ann Fugier
