"MakeHole" silly limitation?

Why can’t I use a planar closed edge from a solid to make a hole in that solid ?

Isn’t that silly ?

Please folks, don’t waste your time with “workaround suggestions”. Just tell me if I’m missing something here, or if you agree this is really stupid.

Not sure I full understand.
Have you tried Rhino - PushPull?

Really stupid, no. An oversight/limitation that would be good to have fixed, yes.

I am assuming you want to use the edge of the chamfer to punch through a hole in that diameter. Normally, I would sub-select the edge and use the Gumball cut tool to do this. However, the cut line on the Gumball doesn’t show up for subselected edges. MakeHole or Wirecut don’t work either. They do if you dupe the edge first and use the curve.

Yeah, exactly the type of useless answer I said I disn’t want.

Have you ? If you did, you would find out it’s a dead end here.

I didn’t say “Really stupid”. I just said stupid.

I always find your attiude so refreshing…

Hi Olivier -

That looks like a somewhat silly limitation, yes.
RH-92685 MakeHole: Failure Sample

OK?

At any rate, do you want a RoundHole workaround?

It was written in plain sight : “Please folks, don’t waste your time with “workaround suggestions”.”

Time for new glasses ?

That was all I wanted to hear, thanks.

Thanks for reporting this.

Yes, I think it might well be time for YOU to get new glasses. Or better reading comprehension. Nowhere in my post was a suggestion of a “workaround” You might go back and read it again with better glasses that have built-in attitude adjustment. I simply confirmed your observation as to what was not working and stated what did for comparison purposes.

Well, that’s a workaround, isn’t it ?

Maybe you’ve been a teacher for too long, and you just can’t help it…

Some people seem to think it’s ok to be rude on the internet because you’re not face to face.

You understand this is a public forum and there’s maybe other people with the same question you have about this silly feature? You might not need a workaround, but if other people read the thread the workaround might be useful to them. Saves us having multiple threads about the same thing and helps people who find this thread after googling the same problem. Rather don’t dictate how people can respond when starting a thread - doesn’t help anyone.

entirely lacking abilities to self reflect, weak memory and gearing up against people who try to help in favor of venting out your own frustration is probably not a very sustainable way to make the world smarter.

on the other side i feel you, i am also very annoyed all the time, its a contemporary thing it seems but boy, pull yourself just a bit more together will ya. changing habits or in worst case your environment may really help. hobbies etc.

Hi Encephalon !

Hi Ftzuk,

well, at least, I don’t hide behind a ridiculous pseudo.

My name is Olivier Suire, and if you want to see if I can be rude to your face, just come over to my workshop 37, chemin des Sapins, Albi, France.

No, just a long time bug reporter, trying to be as complete as possible, which includes posting what I tested, what worked and what didn’t…

I’m still learning Rhino 8 and this isn’t a reply to the OP, but for others. Can’t this be done with RoundHole? Once you set the Radius and Direction with Center Osnap, it’s left click, left click, … Maybe I misunderstood the problem.

your shops name is Xylotica?
