Hello my fellow python-wrangling rhino-riders, I’m in need of a very specific script and am more than happy to pay you either by the hour or upon completion (or some mix of the two).
Regarding what the script performs, at the most basic level it just selects any geometry that is exposed to the outside of the modeling space. So imagine 27 contiguous identical cubes snapped together in a 3 by 3 by 3 amalgamation. Once running this basic version of the script, only the 26 outside cubes would be added to selection.
So that’s the bare-bones version of the script that would potentially suffice, but what would be really really useful is something a bit more powerful. Ideally, the script could not only select outside geometry, but also delete all interior geometry, while maintaining joined edges on the exterior. So, in regards to the 27 cubes (in a 3 by 3 by 3 amalgamation again), all that would remain after running this more sophisticated version of the script are the outside 54 faces. But the faces that are on the edges would still be joined as they “remember” the cubes they were derived from.
