Is it worth upgrading from this laptop to this?

Hello all, I recently purchased a cool laptop from Amazon. I installed Rhino 7 so far everything works great. There is an upgraded version of mine for $315, is it worth it?. Here is what is upgraded from what I have now:

Screen 15.5" to 17.3"
Processor I5 to I7
GPU RTX 3050 to 3050TI
RAM same 16gb
Storage 256GB to 1 TB SSD

Um going from a 15" to a 17" isn’t necessarily an ‘upgrade,’ it’s a completely different kind of laptop. You gotta decide for yourself if the bigger screen is worth less portability.

Unless I kept it hooked to a 2nd monitor I wouldn’t even consider running Rhino on a 15" screen…But my eyes are over 50…Might be OK for folks with younger eyes…?

Is the 256GB drive SSD as well…? If not going from a 256 spin drive to a 1 TB SSD is worth the $315 by itself.

Yes they are both SSD

I agree with Jim on this one. Bottom line you got to decide what would be the purpose of this laptop (portability or fixed station). There are a few options out there to connect you laptop to a large monitor.
i5 to i7 (yes), 350 to 350ti ( I don’t know), Ram (I would add another 16gb), storage 256 to 1T (definitely yes). Once you install your apps, and create files; there won’t be much left to your drive. I would say minimum 500gb.

17" is also portable… At least my muscles are not that degenerated (<50) :stuck_out_tongue: I think the difference between these machines is minimal. It’s always good to have a larger screen and more storage. Probably, you also get 10 % more CPU and GPU performance. But nobody can tell you if it’s worth. Likely it’s not. Personally, I enjoy portability, but when doing work, I always connect my laptop to a docking station in a proper office environment. So the screen size doesn’t matter that much for me.
