Impulse response (IR) and auralization grasshopper components

Hi @Arthur

Thank you for your software as usual, it is a great tool !

I tried my model using the Pachyderm Rhino interface to auralize and export some impulse responses, and it works like a charm (exported a mono and ambisonics IR as .wav file, and auralized it with an anhechoic .wav file through the Auralize function).

But when I try to do the same on Grasshopper, I am facing some issues:

  1. The “OmniIR” component only works if the IS input is not used, is this normal ?
  2. When I use the “Conv” component with an imported mono .wav file as S1 and the result signal from “OmniIR” component as S2, I get a signal that I can export as .wav file, but the file does not play any sound. Note that I used the exact same file as in the Rhino interface (which worked fine)
  3. I can’t manage to use the “StereoIR” and “AmbisonicIR” components. Does it need multiple simulation results as input ? Do you have a template example ?

I use Rhino 8 and Pachyderm 2.6.0.11
Here the file and some screenshots
Thanks again
Taha

Thank you for the kind words, Taha.

I’m afraid I need to beg your forgiveness on this one. The grasshopper auralization tools are relatively new, and are still in development. I’m not really sure how well they work at the moment, but you are suggesting that they still need some work.

One thing I might suggest - it is possible that the convolution worked, but it is just very low in level. You could try bringing it into Audacity, and amplifying it.

For the Stereo and Ambisonics IR tools, I would be surprised if they work yet. I will take your file, though, and glean some insight into how you used them. This will help me make sure that the interface is intuitive.

Feel free to share any more insights you might have.

Arthur
