Import toolbar into Rhino 9

How do I import a Rhino 8 toolbar into Rhino 9? Ive been able to do this in every other version of Rhino until now.

My toolbar RUI file shows in the options window but has no buttons when i select it like the default toolbar does.

are you moving a group of toolbars or just one?

if you float the toolbar and see the gear icon in the upper right, you’ll see “export container”

save that some where, (recommend desktop, or cloud drive if you are sharing it with others) then open v9. drag and drop that file on a running rhino and the container and it’s containing toolbars should open in v9-

dock them or relocate them as you wish.

this should work x platform from mac to pc or vice versa. (it does here)

Perfect, thank you Kyle.

If you run into any problem with this process, please ring the bell loudly. We are actively working to take the suck out of this process.

this did not work for me. When I try to drag in the rhc file i get “File type not supported by Rhinoceros”

@callum has been working on this to make it easier and I believe he’s close to releasing a workflow that will make this problem vanish for good.

I’ll defer to let him expand on this as he’s able when the tools are ready to try.

In the WIP go to Windows > Containers > Manage Containers and see if you can import it from there.

no luck. nothing happens

Yes, can confirm doesn’t work here either..

Also under ‘new for version 9’ menu there are options

_PreviousVersionsImporter and _OptionsExporter neither of which work returning message ‘unknown command’

This doesn’t work either. It recognises and imports the .rhc file but doesn’t carry over any buttons..

There is an updated post about transfer settings here:

Thanks OptionsImport worked nicely

… except toolbars.. seemingly no matter what I do (open windows/containers/import container etc etc) nothing makes any difference. I am just trying to carry over my ‘default popup’ menu (triggered using mouse button) from V8 to V9 and cannot get this to work.

Here is screenshot in V8 (accessed via toolbars from options)

How do I implement in V9 ?

Here it is in V8

.. that’s how I ‘export container’.

Windows / Containers looks identical in each version

it’s carried over ‘popupbill’ but the buttons obstinately do no t change

Here it is in V9

@ambrose_bill I think what you need to use is OptionsMigrate → Import data from previous install.

For example, I quickly made this customized pupup by dragging some tools:

After migrating my Rhino 8 settings to Rhino 9 I get the same popup toolbar with the updated icons:

Oh yes !! Nice. Worked perfectly. I like the new appearance as well. Thank you

edit I am seeing some strange behaviour..

V8

V9

Clicking on the weird grey circles and I get a crash !! I didn’t add them.. they appeared after trying to add ‘softtransform’ to the menu..

edit : seems that some commands are ‘missing’ from the editor

The first ‘grey circle’ relates to _Blend (aka quick curve blend) which seems to be missing from V9 ? well that is to say not in the options for adding to menu

.. although can still be run

The other ‘grey circles’ seem to have been ‘added’ by Rhino migration process ? in other words they do not represent a ‘missing’ command.. rather they just take up space..

they can be deleted (worked it out)

Hey @ambrose_bill I’m working to iron out these kinks so everything is seamless.

Could you upload your rhino 8 settings folder (and any custom RUIs) to https://www.rhino3d.com/upload?to=callum@mcneel.com

It’s private and confidential and I would like your toolbar migration to be perfect
