I’ll most likely try to use Grasshopper for this, ultimately, so as to get parametric control. But I still have lots to learn in GH.

Nope, just been using it for years. I think Ray McKaig either wrote it or is the current keeper of the project. It’s been immensely useful. On a similar note, are you aware you can get ANYTHING in McMaster Carr’s catalog in STEP format? I’ve got libraries of their parts that have all been downloaded and put into named blocks. I haven’t done the entire catalog (that’d take years) but mostly stuff I commonly use like bearing pins, dowels, oddball bolts and knobs, etc. It’s a great resour…

And not sure why everyone thinks ‘Mcmastercarr’ has the best most accurate 3D modelers on the planet that make perfect threads on every part you can download.

This used to not be the case. I’ve seen some pretty bad files I’ve downloaded from them. I always just consider it as “mockup” geometry when I’m lazy and don’t want to model something from scratch – especially stuff ‘off-the-shelf’ I buy from them.

It is nice that there 3D modelers seem to have improved their talent over the years though.
