How do I smooth the shape?

Hello all

I recently decided to work with mesh for the first time. I watched a video where a designer created a shape like this:

Then he used a command (that I could not find in Rhino 7)

And smoothed the meshes and turned them into this shape:

How can I do the same?

I used QuadRemesh, but the result was not this smoothed shape.

simply run the tosubd command on that mesh.

since it’s all quads already, you don’t need to quadremesh.

That is right, senior

But as I want to work with mesh I want to know which command the person used in the mesh workbench. Also, there is may a need for some modification, manipulation, and changes on the meshes, and turning the modified object into sub D may have an unwanted result.

you asked how they did it, I told you.

They used to SubD on a quad mesh. You can work in box mode of SubD by hitting the tab key and making your mods and changes there, just like you would if you were working on a an unconverted quad based mesh.

Excuse me, I didn’t understand :: what is box mode of subD and its tab key?

box mode is the opposite of smooth mode in subd- the tab key is the toggle.

make a subd object then hit the tab key you will see it change form from smooth to it’s control polygon.

the control polygon or box mode can be used similarly to a mesh model and is most useful for diagnosing issues with a SUbd model

Myself, I do most if not all of my modeling in box mode and use smooth mode for refinements and evaluation of the final surface.

Oh yes. You did mean toggling the rough view into a smooth view in subD. I supposed the box mode of sub D is something in the mesh unit, and I can switch sub D to mesh again.

Many thanks

just in case you are still looking for the initial thing, i believe the Weaverbird plugin was used, which is available for grasshopper and Rhino itself.

Hello, sir

What does the plugin do?

Hello, senior

Oh yes, it is the same that I saw in the video! But I didn’t know what it was. I supposed the person was using an older version of Rhino

I don’t know why somebodies try to keep some technical matters secret and the guy didn’t point out in the video that was the weavebird plugin?

Thank you so much, master

I read the article partially. But it just works in Rhino 4 and 5 and I don’t know is there any new version of the plugin? I have to go to Food 4 Rhino and observe the newest information about the plugin.

Thank you again

How about just forgetting about that ancient tutorial and using the tools that are natively available in Rhino 7 - that is, SubD?

Yes, you are right

Looking for an out of date plugin is not fruitful, while the great Rhino 7 has the best developed tools… I really forgot the old plugin.

Thank you
