Hi, We really need to have our userobjects in the could. I sometimes have to work from different locations. Some userobjects need to be shared between teams. They also have to be organized by projects. Right now, keeping them into network folders creates chaos, there are several versions of the same component adapted by different people. It’s hard to track changes. Running pythonscripts from a cloud folder could be an option but the userobjects folder in GH cannot be changed. Is there any update on this topic for GH2? Thank you!

@ivelin.peychev , You are describing a much more complicated scenario then what I’m proposing. Think it like this: There’s just 1 admin. That admin only adds userobjects in a remote folder. From that remote folder the userobjects are picked up by everybody else. That’s it, no more than this. (I even changed the title of this post to avoid confusion)

That could work if GH can change/add locations where it could get the components from. That is not implemented yet. What I propose is the current workaround. :wink:

I’d very much like to stop doing anything about plug-in loading and versioning and leave all that stuff to the Yak developers. Are there any updates on the topic? I´d be very helpful to have a common folder synced with the server to centralise user objects for an entire team.

Custom user object path seems a promising feature. I’ll add into my plugin later. Though it may be impossible to update already-placed user objects automatically after userobject file is updated. The ideal workflow is to combine the use of UserObject and Referenced Cluster.

What about using Symlinks? It seems to be working fine. I have my user objects and components folder in Dropbox and have placed symlinks to them in the AppData folder of Grasshopper. Disclaimer: Use at your own risk. If you don’t understand what symlinks are and how they work, don’t do this. I just copied my user objects and components folder to Dropbox. Delete the ones in AppData. Now use a software like Link Shell Extension (free) to pick the folder in Dropbox as the Source: [pick-symlink] Go to the folder in AppData and drop it as a symlink: [drop-symlink] That’s it. Grasshopper now opens fine and reads user objects and components from your Dropbox. You can share the folder and do the same on another machine. Its working fine for us.

Symbol links work a bit differently when the target is a network drive, just a reminder. Indeed it’s a bulletproof solution for Dropbox-like team settings.
