Can I draw on surface for splitting?

Hi there,

As a Fusion 360 user, I am looking for an alternative CAD solution to achieve drawing sketch on surface for parts splitting.

Currently my workflow is:

  1. Create a surface which is most close to the product, for example, like shoes.
  2. Split the surface and thicken it for the part manufacturing
2.1 Create a close plane to the surface I am going to split
2.2 Create a sketch for splitting tool
2.3 Split the surface body by that sketch (it’s actually a sketch projection on the surface, I have to iterate many times to get the expected result)
2.4 Thicken the part and add more details

As you see, this process is awkward, especially step 2.1-2.3. Sometimes I create tool surfaces for complicated splitting, it can work well, but still inconvenient and cost more time than a sketch. I wonder if Rhino have such feature to allow me to work on surface directly like sculpture in other 3D modelling software, eg. Zbrush, Blender or some specific industry CAD, eg. ShoeMaker Pro.

CurveOnSurface and InterpCrvOnSrf for creating curves on surfaces.

InterpCrvOnSrf is a command in Rhino V6. https://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/6/help/en-us/index.htm#commands/interpcrvonsrf.htm

CurveOnSurface is a plug-in which needs to be installed. It can be downloaded for free from Food4Rhino: https://www.food4rhino.com/app/curveonsurface-0

HI David,
Thanks for the link, the InterpCrvOnSrf feature looks nice and helpful for my case.
Does Rhino 6 support parametric control, sketch constrains and construction history like timeline in Fusion 360?
Is Rhino6 stable on MacOS? As a 20 years windows and both hands mouse user, only with MacBook touchpad, my wrist won’t pain for 24x7.

no parametric support :frowning:

never had it likely never will (outside of grasshopper)
