BUG: Transparency in viewport not working for objects in blocks

Hello,

geometry with a transparent material it displays fine in the viewports unless the geometry is in a block instance, in which case the material appears either opaque, very opaque or behaves otherwise unexpectedly with changes to the material settings having little effect. No geometry, block nor layer is locked.

During some update, toggling “Use advanced GPU lighting” seemed to fix the issue but no longer.

Lots of twiddling and tweaking the Display mode options as well as the material’s settings does not fix the issue enough. Exploding the block renders the geometry as expected and as it used to do several version ago (and in Rhino 8).

Hi Pekka,

Not able to repeat here in the latest. The attached file has transparent materials on loose objects and on blocks set up a few different ways, they all match here in Rendered. Does it look the same for you? If it does, please post a small example of your model and which version you are on. Thanks!

Hi Japhy,

the file as you sent it looks good to me, however upon further testing with it, I’m finding that when objects with transparency share the same block, their transparencies ‘stack’ strangely.

Note, this only happens if the transparent geometries are within the same block.

Note: When the block is open in editing mode, the transparencies ‘stack’ as expected.

This was using Rhino 9 SR0 2026-10-13 (Rhino 9 BETA, 9.0.26286.06303)

I hope this helps!

Hi Pekka,

Thanks for the file, i was able to repeat it here, it works as expected in Rhino 8. Filed as RH-99595 Display: Objects vanish behind transparency inside a block
