BUG | Rhino 8 Freezing When Scrolling or Previewing Materials

Hi McNeel Team,

We’ve been running into a serious issue in Rhino 8 where the program freezes for several minutes when scrolling through materials, selecting them, or even just previewing them. This also affects the Layers panel—scrolling through layers with materials applied can cause the same freezing behavior.

This didn’t happen in Rhino 7, so it seems specific to Rhino 8. We’ve tested it across multiple machines and can reliably reproduce it.

We came across this forum thread where others are seeing the same thing. For now, we’ve applied the following workaround, which helps but isn’t ideal:

EnableGLPreview → False

EnablePreview → False

EnablePreviewCache → True

These changes improve performance but break accurate previews in things like Enscape. Final renders are fine, but the live preview is no longer reliable. Can you confirm if this is being actively worked on? And is there a timeline or a better workaround available?
