BUG: print order in PDF with hatches

I wish Rhino (V8) would draw hatches in PDF the same as it does when Printdisplay is enabled on the screen. Unpredictably, Rhino prints the hatches in the wrong order

This (longstanding?) bug is still present in 8.8! Having unreliable print preview makes for a lot of unwelcome surprises.

1. This is in viewport w/ print preview on, notice the hatch in lower right corner:

2. This is on layout w/ print preview on:

3. This is the print dialogue (the output PDF matches it):

If I am not mistaken, any conflicting geometry should draw in the order of layers position (concept I had not known applied to Rhino for quite long). It is not reliable however, with some hatches respecting it and others not.

The workaround I usually use (in plans) is lowering the hatch position in Z direction as I find changing the draw order manually messy. eg.:

  • bringing the lines to the front makes them render in front of 3D geometry
  • using draw order in combination with blocks feels also unreliable

I think one thing improved, IIRC in some past v8 releases the print dialogue matched what was shown in the layout view but did not match the actual PDF…
