Looks like there is purge problem with materials in Rhino 6.
Here is the file - it was an imported SKP model that came in with materials (Rhino-created custom Rhino materials).
Once all materials have been stripped and set to ByLayer, all original materials still linger in the Material Editor (after Purge Materials=Yes).
Not being able to get rid of unused materials makes the files messy - please fix !
That’s right, the extras are gone when re-opening the file. ( so the attached one doesn’t have them ).
It is still a problem though - I don’t want to have to close-reopen the file to declutter materials that are no longer used from the Material Editor.
Hi Jarek - right, I just wanted to confirm- I guess since it does not travel well, the best would be to post or send me the pre-purge file, that way we can see it in action.
Hi Pascal - here is the sample file before removing materials.
Try setting all object materials to ByLayer and purge Materials=Yes.
Then either in Material Editor or drop-down for per-object material setting you should still see the list of all materials… until you re-open the file.
Hi Jarek - thanks- Hm… here I have the opposite problem. As soon as I set the materials to by layer, all of the materials disappear from the material panel. But not from the Properties material drop-down… until I close and reopen. Ugh.
thanks… and yes I can confirm the same. Materials panel materials disappear right after assigning ByLayer to all, even without purging. But they linger in the drop-drown even after purging, until file is re-opened.
