Bongo 2.0 for Rhino 6 - Beta

Hi all,

If you feel like testing Bongo for Rhino 6 WIP, you can download the SR 7 RC from here:
https://www.rhino3d.com/download/bongo/2/release/rc

PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

There’s no added features, just the support for Rhino 6 WIP.
If you find any problems or bugs, please report them.

Enjoy,

Actually, some very minor features have been added:

  • light intensity can be animated
  • focal blur can be animated
** for Raytraced the settings that make sense are distance and aperture.

With any renderer?

If the renderer supports it I don’t see why not. I don’t have access to other engines, so I have tested only with Raytraced.

Note: just noticed that Cycles for Rhino seems to freeze if used as renderer with Bongo. Better to not use that until fixed. Raytraced still works when using viewport as source.

Coming in late on this conversation, but these are two VERY helpful feature additions. Thank you!

hi guys, was curious if Bongo will be integrating with the new snapshots feature in rhino 6.0? seems like it could be a great avenue for quicker animation setups. Also will the viewport animations be getting upgraded in any way? i.e. video texture previewing whilst scrubbing through timeline, without having to render

Currently all I can say is that we’ll look into it.

Does this Beta have hard surface physics yet? If not, any idea of timeline for v3 with it?

Thanks

While the words WIP and beta were used, this is only a RC of SR 7 of Bongo 2, i.e. a release candidate of a compatibility update so that it runs on RH6. This id’s the important part:

Q2 2023.
a.k.a. your guess is as good as anybody’s.

Is it possible to Trial Beta test Bongo2 in v6Beta? Thinking of investing in it, but I’m working in Rhino Beta6 these days, and would love to try it!

Thanks

@Alan_Farkas - Yes it should work. Just download the installer from the link above and choose to install it as an Evaluation version.

Thanks, @marika_almgren, but the link brings me to a page asking me for my email and a Bongo License key, which obviously I don’t have since I’m trying this for the first time. Thoughts?

@Alan_Farkas
Access to betas and work-in-progrres builds is predicated on the user owning a license first.
You will not be able to evaluate Bongo for V6 until it is released, or you purchase a license for Bongo for V5.

Sorry

Thank JB for correcting me. Sorry @Alan_Farkas guess I was too long on holiday, the installer actually supports it, but the testing is for current users only so the license key is required for downloading.

Download link has just been updated to RC2. It should now work correctly with all languages.

You can now get the v6 compatible Eval from here:
https://www.rhino3d.com/download/bongo/2/release

will the Bongo for Rhino 5 License work on Rhino 6? or I would need to upgrade the bongo licence?

Best Regards!

@daniel_acg - It’s the same product, only ported to Rhino 6 so yes the same license will work.
