Best approach to generate this type of 3D cladding?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently started making small Rhino Python scripts with ChatGPT, so I’m still very much a beginner.

I’d like to recreate this type of diamond metal cladding (see attached image) on a reference surface, with real 3D overlapping tiles (the reference surface could also be curved and include window openings that I’d eventually like the tiles to trim around).

Before I dive into it, I was wondering if anyone knows of an existing script, plugin, Grasshopper definition, or a straightforward way to achieve something similar. Any suggestions on the best approach would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What level of detail are you trying to achieve? Rendering being the lowest, Fabrication being the highest.

No fabrication at all;
It would be rendering (we try to push photorealism quite a bit; so using normal map or displacement sometimes is not enough) and also for documentation drawings.

Thanks

Wonderful, thank you so much.

Noob question:

what if I want to provide a set of surfaces (some of those curved) as a starting point?
Would the GH you sent me work also with the opening?

small example of surfaces I am working with..
