Batch Renaming Materials

I couldn’t find a way to quickly and simply batch renaming materials like you would do files or folder in Windows (selecting all or a bunch and give it a new name and letting Windows create the appendix numbering and rename the lot). Like for blocks [there is a another post on that] it would really helpful to avoid conflicts when importing files that have identical material names (but are in fact different materials just created in different Rhino files or from any other source). And if you import a file with similar material names have the options prior to import to either keep the existing material and automatically rename the ones being imported, overwrite /replace existing one with the new ones, or replace the new ones with existing etc. This would be particularly useful when dealing with Lidar terrains meshes etc. that can easily come with thousands of materials…
