Asking Advice for 3D Scanner

One of my uses for Rhino is creating 3D-printed accessory kits for scale aircraft modelers (www.FlightlineEngineering.com). These are mostly improvement parts which must integrate with an existing model kit’s parts. Making my accessory parts involves much trial and error, as a caliper and paper templates can only be so accurate. I would like to be able to scan in a plastic model kit part, and convert it to a NURBS file, so I can project reference points, lines, etc., on it, and design my accessory parts around it, thereby ensuring an accurate fit, without so much trial and error. I have tried a few apps with my iPhone (Qlone, etc), but they all seem to have a problem accurately capturing a shelled part, such as a fuselage half (see photo below). Can anyone recommend a better scanner for this task? I recently saw a scanner called a Moose Lite (3dMakerPro.com), but as it’s very new, I’m not real certain if it will do what I need it to do. Any advice on 3D scanners is appreciated.

I’m researching scanners today. Found your thread. That scanner looks interesting. That brand looks like a great alternative to ‘Einstar’. I’m glad you shared that link. I’ll be studying it probably for the next few days, and anything else I can find. :beers:

I can say that their company looks like they certainly have solutions that will work for you. Their specs look very promising.

My company right now looking for solutions similar to this:

super cheap, hopefully very easy to use, etc.

Ok I dug through the whole internet and I’m 100 percent sure @HAL9000 found the best option for affordable solution – imo. :beers: 3dMakerPro. If anyone finds a better option, let us know

I’m basically tightening my price target to under $1k.

I guess I’m willing to look at the iRhno app again, but that requires expensive iphone soo… lol.
