Area of a projected brep onto a plane (only the shadow)

This one has stumped me. Im trying to calculate the area of a complex brep on the XZ plane. I projected it onto the plane but the resulting projection is more like flattening multiple surfaces onto that plane that its “shadow”

I would like to create a curve that is just the outside edges, create a single planar surface and then calculate its area.

Is there a clever way to do that?
