After 10 years of duty, my computer need a serious upgrade.
I’m looking for high clock speed CPU as recommended for Rhino and Grasshopper
Some tests show a very good performance with Intel Core Ultra and high single speed clock.
These Ultra CPU generation are not multi threaded as I know, and I wonder if it’s good to go with it for the next years.
Any advise is welcome
Generally, Intel Arrow Lake is certainly not as good “all around” as the AMD equivalent.
I certainly wouldn’t replace my 13700K for any Arrow Lake CPU; and that is the direct generation progression.
For productivity use, Arrow Lake does seem to provide at least good performance in many tasks. However, I think off the back of most gaming reviews; it seems the AMD 9000X CPUs are a likely better bet.
If you can wait a bit, it may be worth just delaying a month or so until after CES, and see if competition and pricing gets better. Intel is overdue (by thier own public statement) to release a serious microcode update for Arrow Lake to improve performance.
However, if AMD have some good seasonal deals; I see no reason to wait out for Intel Arrow Lake improvements.
There’s a little gap of performance in fact between these CPU, none is bad,
Prices tags are very close too
I’ll follow your idea to wait for CES and check for reliability then.
Just to be sure there’s no special issue with any of them working with grasshopper
