Affinity Illustrator/Designer -> Does anyone use it? Recommend Upgrading?

I know the old guy’s going to get pissed because I haven’t categorized this correctly (I did have a scan and couldn’t find a suitable category for ‘other’ software).

I know a few of you on here have at least tried Affinity products. I found things to be a little unintuitive. But otherwise capable. I’m wondering if it’s worth upgrading? Or if I should just settle on using Adobe instead?

Thanks!!

I’m on affinity since 5 years and I’ve upgraded every time.
For me, for what I need, is a perfect solution at the perfect price.
I use mainly Designer to build up simple graphics like promotional email banners or to build labels for products or graphics for cardboard packaging.
It doesn’t has any AI so it’s everything on you but the workflow is super fast.
There some difference from illustrator so at the beginning could look weird but at the end it does everything you need and in a very efficient way.
I’m very satisfied.

I use it for creating application icons. I found it quite straightforward to use when you have some background in Illustrator. However, it completely lacks automation features. E.g. if you want to export .ico files, I hacked it to export .png in various resolutions by clicking buttons automatically, just to load them in GIMP for this particular purpose. With a scripting interface that could have been done much easier. But you can’t beat the price, so I’m not expecting it to be perfect. Btw, I can recommend the all-in package, because I do have two machines with Windows and MacOS. With this you get access to both versions without any additional purchasing involved.

Thanks!! It helps build a bit of confidence if I know that other Rhino users are also using it.

Some time ago I had used the photo editor and got nowhere. I tried out the “designer” and it felt better. I also looked at Adobe pricing… So I think I’ll go ahead and upgrade.

I went to Architecture school and used the trio of Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign interlinked for portfolios crits etc.

I’ve been using Affinity Designer since it came out in 2016ish? Maybe earlier and have loved each new version and app they’ve released. I can heartily recommend using their products. I bought the Version 2 Suite as soon as it came out as an upgrade for something ridiculously low like $200 CAD.
