Adjusting imported texture proportions in UV?

When I import a texture, its proportions are adjusted to make it fit into a square proportion. How can I keep it at its original proportions?

Here is the unwrapped model with the imported texture in the UV editor, and the texture show with its original proportions on the right.

I was searching what I was doing wrong with texture mapping because the texture image proportion always gets wonky. Any updates on this? Looks like there’s no development according to Youtrack? Even when I create a square to bring the texture image, the proportion is still wrong. I have to eyeball it somehow adjust to correct proportion

That’s correct. This is currently on that developer’s 9.x list.
