2D dwg - rotating object only in one view

Hello,

When I’m rotating object in perspective view, it rotates all other views of the same objects even when they are locked.
What should I do to rotate object only in one detail view?

Thanks!

Hi Agnieszka -

Detail views are like windows in a house and allow you to see the world outside the house. They all look at the same 3D world out there. If the outside world is changed, this change is visible from all windows.
If you need a different view in a perspective detail, I suppose you could just rotate the view instead of the object?

Hi Wim,

Right, now I understand. I thought maybe there is a way to “unhinge” views, and they can function as a separate pictures of the same view.

Is there a chance you know how can I section mu object to achieve drawing like attached?

Hi Agnieszka -

Something like this, perhaps?

You need a clipping plane and the hatch is the result of the section style is that assigned to the layer that the object is on.

Yes,

This is exactly what I need.
I trier your solution here, but I don’t know how to show clipping plane in the view.
I turned off clipping plane in all views and keept it only in the right view. How do I make it visible with hatch?

Continuing the discussion from 2D dwg - rotating object only in one view:

Does anybody knows how to add hatch to section in drafting?

Thanks

Hello,

I’m struggling to create a 2D section view.
@wim advised me “You need a clipping plane and the hatch is the result of the section style is that assigned to the layer that the object is on.”
I have created a clipping plane, but it result in section “sign” being visible in desirable window, not section with hatch.

This is an example:

This is how it looks in my dwg:

I’m attaching file as well.

I really stucked so I would graet;ly appreciate if someone can explain it to me.

Thank you.

Hi Agnieszka -
Please don’t start multiple threads on the same topic!

You don’t need to have the clipping plane object visible in a detail to show a section in that detail. You can create the clipping plane in model space as you did:

Note: By default, the clipping plane is active only in the view in which you create it. To easily switch from a clipped perspective view to a unclipped perspective view, I always first save a named view (“v0”) of the perspective viewport before creating the clipping plane. I then save a new named view (e.g. “x1”) with the clipped view.

As you see in this image, the clipping plane clips the object, but there is no section hatch. Go to the Layers panel and right-click on the layer that the object is on (“Default” in this case). Then pick Properties and Section Style:

Note: There is also a “Section Style” column in the Layers panel but you need to scroll to the right to get to it. I keep most columns in the panel turned off and access what I need by right-clicking and using Properties.

In the panel that pops up, set the section properties as you would like them, e.g.:

In the clipped viewport, the object now looks like this:

When you then create a layout and details, you can, in model space, select the clipping plane, and, in the Properties panel, select which views this clipping plane will clip.

In your case, you want the detail with the “Right” view on “Page 1” clipped:

Each object has a section style, individually, or by layer:

When this is set, and the clipping plane active in the detail view, you will see the section style there.

Sorry for the new thread.
Could you please explain quickly how to create a new and save it (e.g. “x1”)
I managed to add hatch to my section. I just dodn’t follow the first steps with views.

Thanks for your help. Greatly appreciated!

Thank you Eugen!

Hi Agnieszka -

Creating named views is by no means required to make section drawings, I just find that it can speed up things, both when modeling and when making drawings.

With some view active, run NamedView to open the panel. Click on the + icon to create a new named view.

If you keep the names of the named views short, you can close the panel and just type the name of a named view to restore it. I use “vx” for non-clipped views, “xx” for vertical sections, and “px” for horizontal sections.

When you want to create a second clipping planes, doing so in a view that already has an active clipping plane will result in the view being clipped by both. I find that, most often, that’s not what I want. So I just type v0 and create the second clipping plane in a unclipped viewport.

Cool, didn’t know that!

Awesome, thank you!

Hi @wim,

I tried to create multiple views like you advised.
But I can’t go back to clipped view and unclipped again and see sections “active” as I left it once I switch between the views.

First pic below - creating unclipped view:

Second is clipped view:

Now jumping back to clipped view

And this is how it looks when I jump back to clipped view:

Section view created itself as a flat view:

Is there something I did wrong?

I thought that I’ll be able to switch between those views and section will be left as it was created in one of them.
Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks for your help!
