Just like the smooth tool opens a dialog box, there should be a command to reduce, simplify & smooth polylines with a dialog box. Illustrator has such a thing and what I like about it is that it gives me a live preview of the result while I am adjusting the sliders. Usually, I want to pair smoothing with a reduction operation and this combination is hard to achieve currently, because it requires a lot of trial and error. With a dialog box, I don’t need to commit any changes to see whether the changes I make are to my liking. This interactivity makes the workflow more fluent in comparison to the reduce command (which only has a tolerance) and the simplify command (for which there are no parameters to adjust).
Moreover, the rebuild and convert tools often alter polylines quite a bit or produce polylines with too many points.
