Go for the iMac, if you don’t need portability.

My main reasons would be for the iMac Pro:

  • greater screen real estate (which your eyes would thank in the long run)
  • significantly better cooling (although the i9 performs better on paper during single thread operations, which counts for Rhino, it will throttle due to thermal loads)
  • better multithread performance (if rendering counts)
  • more IO ports

For the MacBook Pro:

  • you can carry it around
  • larger SSD in these configurations (more convenient to use Bootcamp, etc.)
