Student architectural project: 'Tension Beneath the Gantry'

Hi there,

Just wanted to share this student project which was completed this summer studio. Lots was learned during this studio; on this design for a live/work house for a Luthier. Primarily, what was helpful to learn was how to go from research, to sketch orthographic and detail design; to final production images utilising the power of Details/layouts in Rhino 7.
All images made from rhino 7 model; with colour and opacity tweaking in Photoshop/Indesign.

Thanks Paul

Who’d know that 5 years of hard work at architecture school gradually equips you with the tools to first design, then communicate a non-existent idea to someone else… it’s been a totally foreign learning experience haha.

Totally! I’m 5th year too! Just having exchange in Finland and doing my graduation project after that in industrial design. Hell of a lot I learned, especially here in Finland. Still crazy to think about what we have not learned yet and what’s more to come XD

I heard that European architecture schools incorporate engineering and landscape into their teaching much more than Australia, UK, and US; where disciplines are split. I love engineering side of things; probably runs in my family haha.

How are you liking Finland? I’ve been here since 1997 (: (There are quite many Rhino devs here in Turku).

Well, here in Finland it’s much more industrial design than I did in my home university!

I’m not too much into engineering but love to understand the basics so I can incorporate that into my designs.

Loving it! It will be sad when I leave but I think job prospects for industrial design is better in Germany…
In these 6 month that I’ve been here I learned so much more. I worked on really good projects which gives me the possibility to revamp my whole portfolio from art (my universities approach to ID) to real industrial design.
I will keep this stay in my heart! It is such a nice country and I love the people! I will return for sure
