Sine wave on a leveled boundary surface

Hi all,
I am trying to create patterns for high frequncey embossing. Sine wave is one of my approach.
I ended up extracting the contours of the surface and love the pattern.
I will be doing an extrude on the closed curves to create the surface.

Since this piece is to be sew on other boundaries, I will need to make the boundary on this piece to be flat/leveled.

I understand that the wave itself will alter if I want the boundary to be flat and the result could be very different. The movement of the vertices around the boundary will have to stay the same in the Z direction while the MD slider moves.
Is there a way to do this?
Please excuse my english and explanation.
Thanks for the time.

Hi,

You could force points near the boundary to have a smooth transition from 0 to whatever value the sin wave gives.
