Rhino out of memory

I am having the same issue, specifically when making a copy or moving a SUBD, i had never seen this issue before with the V6 or the WIP release. But i am now using SUBD more and more

Im running 16GB of RAM the memory in use within the task bar is usually showing 500 - 700MB

I feel the problem is getting worse, i reset the machine, which gives a bit more time between crashes, but i can copy and paste sometimes just 2 - 3 times before the crash.

I am running the latest update, however i have recently installed pufferfish, and panel tools, and i use VRAY. But im not using any of these plugins when the crash occurs, it only happens with the copy and paste or moving a SUBD.

The files are not particularly large, around 2.5MB, and im working the file in wireframe mode on top view.

In addition the emergency save file will usually have 50% of the model missing.

I’ve moved this to a new topic.

ive spent a few days on this, so i updated video drivers, ran the windows checks for memory and system issues, and all came back ok.

to me it looks like the problem is only occuring when moving groups of SUB-D’s.

Ive done similar things with nurbs and meshes and no issues.

subd is still working fine for creating and editing models, it just seems to really bug out when moving, copying and pasting SUBD’s

this is problematic as i was trying to take advantage of some of the flexibility that comes with iterating subd models in floorplans and layouts

Hello - please run SystemInfo in Rhino and copy/paste the results here. The first thing to try, from your comments above, is to disable Vray in Options > Plug-ins page, then close and restart Rhino and see if it behaves any better.

Hello Pascal, thanks for the reply, yes i tried with the plugins disabled and enabled, but has the same issues.

Heres the system info.

Everything works really well, and im enjoying the V7 features, especially SUBD. But this problem has become a big pain.

Could it be hardware, do i need a more powerful workstation for SUBD modeling?

Hello - SubD should not be particularly memory intensive, I don’t think, unless they are very dense. Do simple subDs cause the same problem? What is the symptom, exactly?

Thanks for the example files, I can reproduce the crash.
