Rendered slower in R8

I have a simple scene in Rhino 8 that runs 3x slower than in Rhino7.
Do you know what causes that?

The file is simply 6 meshes of 400x400 vertices (160.000 faces)
Each mesh tile is textured with a PNG image that is only 800x800 pixles each.

Each face is 0.5 x 0.5 meter.
Model is moved close to origin.

In R7 I get 36 FPS and
in R8 I get 12 FPS

Using textmaxspeed to measure, turning off shadows doesn’t really affect anything.
Drivers are the latest Studio drivers
Intel 10700
RTX 2070
Windows 11

The model is made by me, data downloaded and geometry generated through my own script, so noting strange casued by importing bad geometry etc.

File is uploaded to you as it is 49MB zipped with textures.

PS! The upload page is a bit strange because we need to add the e-mail to whom we want to send the file, but those emails are not so easy to find. I used dale@mcneel.com so hope that is OK.
It would be good if we could just type in names or use the @dale etc as we do here on the news group.

I’ve received your test file.

I’ve probably done this elsewhere. But can you post the results of Rhino’s SystemInfo command?

I’ll review it with Jeff and let you know what we find.

Sure, I’ll supply the system info.
But why are you not collecting the CPU info?
I often see different results on harware where the cpu is an i7 vs Xeon vs some AMD cpus.
Vendor, model, number of cores, actual clockspeed etc is of interest, so I suggest you update SystemInfo to gather that as well.

On my work machine with an i7 8700 and a RTX 4070 Ti:
V7: 90 FPS on an even larger monitor.
V8: 28 FPS.

So a consistent 3X difference on both machines.
PS! I was surpriced to see how much faster it works on this machine, even though I expected a file like this to spin much faster on both systems.

I don’t really understand why CPU isn’t included with _SystemInfo either. I think the impression has always been that Rhino’s CPU activities will run on a potato, but I just am not convinced that’s the case; no matter how single-threaded it is.
