Raytraced viewport not getting to set sample count

@nathanletwory
These problems seem to persist on Rhino 8.
Can you draw the attention of the rendered mode person?
In the meantime, in Raytracing, my scene seems to stay in a loop cycling from 0 to 100-something and restarting. I have it set to 1000 cycles but it doesn’t every get there.

For Rendered mode you want to talk with @DavidEranen

For issues with Raytraced in Rhino 8 please post the result of the Rhino command _SystemInfo, and attach a file that shows the behavior.

The file I am using is too large.

here’s the system info:

Update at least to Rhino 8.3, and if you can to Service Release Candidate Rhino 8.4.

Also please update your Nvidia GPU drivers to the latest available - be sure to do a clean install (in the installer custom installation and check the Clean Installation checkbox).

Rhino said it was up to date, no 8.3 available.
However, I downloaded the release Candidate.
Same issue. By the way, no problem in Rhino7.

I don’t know of any changes that could be impacted by using RDP, but perhaps there have been. I would expect this not to be an issue for reaching samples to what has been set. I use VNC myself to connect to my Windows desktop remotely - I have not seen this problem.

I repeat my request for a file with which you see this issue. Please use Rhino - Upload to Support

I have created a YT item (not open to public) to track this issue. I was able to reproduce this issue with provided files.

RH-79844 ChangeQueue keeps issuing updates without changes

I have similar issues with the sample counter since the very beginning I started using the RH8WIP during summer last year. Whenever I brought this up I was told “we can’t reproduce this”. It has never been resolved or even acknowledged. I gave up on reporting it.

Today is the first time I am able to reproduce this.

Initial look would indicate an issue with custom render meshes and the changequeue notifying Raytraced that there are changes, but then doesn’t give any.

We’ll see what further investigation brings to light.

edit: I have a small fix in Raytraced that should help get to completion, but there is still a deeper problem that is being looked into.

I have landed a small fix for Raytraced viewport to not reset when no changes to the scene were recorded regardless of any notifications about potential changes. This fix will be available in Rhino 8.5 service release candidate soonest. The code change in case it makes the reader happy:

That said, the files I received from @nsgma, although they now successfully reach 1000 samples, make Rhino very slow. I have pinpointed a potential location in the core of Rhino that will be further investigated. Once that is fixed this thread should get notified.

I’ve just properly fixed this - performance for this model is now much better - the fixes should be in 8.5
