R8 UI Why are linetype selections so huge?

Can someone explain why linetypes in R8 “panels” are so oversized? Original post here:

Linetypes are not materials, view preview thumbnails, textures, anything that requires more than the width of a “line” to display, yet R8 forces two problems onto the user: 1) a squiggle to display something that should be straight and 2) a ton of wasted pixels above and below the critical information (name and pattern), so you have to scroll to survey the situation. Plus the bugs in the other thread ^. How is this a good idea? Am I missing something?

Previously in R7 and before. Holy smokes, this is clear, economical, easy to read, copy and edit without scrolling around - nice, appreciated:

I’m not sure (because I haven’t tried these settings) but as linetypes can now include taper and you can set the taper on the ends and in the middle, it was perhaps an attempt to show you what an actual curve with a tapered linetype would look like.

If that’s not it, well, I don’t know then. I agree they take up a lot of screen space.

Wow. Really. Tapered linetypes. I’m stunned. Is that a feature anyone asked for? I seriously doubt the amount of use tapered linetypes will ever get is worth the screen space and headache of scrolling like I complained about.

Ok, hypothetical: let’s say tapered linetypes are here to stay. The linetype selection reads better straight anyway!

Why not straight? Snipping tool out of Illustrator.

Edit: Found this thread. My point still stands. Feature Request: Advanced linetype taper settings

Sounds good, sorry to have spammed you guys relentlessly but I hope it’s useful in the long run.

don’t be, we appreciate it. There is lately so much going on that it’s not always feasible to react right away. Feel free also to tag me if you feel it has gone unnoticed.
